In October my brother in law and I went down to South America for a two week motorcycle adventure. We started in Arequipa Peru and finished up in La Paz Bolivia. It was absolutely amazing. Like every trip there were ups and down. But wow, it was fun.

I thought about just doing a quick update with a couple of picture. But, I just can’t. There was just so much happening. So, what I think I’ll do is to do a post for each day. Now, this may seem like a bit much, but have patience. Each day was a new location, new adventure, heck even a new ecology and environment. From High desert, coastal desolation, the Andes, the Sacred Valley, Machu Picchu, Ollantaytambo, etc.

We ended up going through a company called Peru Motors.

They have multiple different tours. Ours was the Trans Andes tour.

Here is a map of our journey.

After getting to the hotel and relaxing for a few Thomas and I wandered down to the central square for a meal and beer. What’s interesting is that each town has its own beer. As you can see we were drinking Arequipena. It’s the name of the town with ena tacked on the end. Cusco had Cusqueña.

Ignore the haggard look. I’d been going for about 20 hours at this point. Sleeping on a plane is nearly impossible for me.

Walking around after dinner and a beer we found a park with Llamas. Our first sighting. The first of many many many sightings.

One really crazy thing that we found was a small bar/pub on our walk back to the hotel. A place called the Chelawasi Beer Company. If you look at the picture you will see stickers and bar signs from Oregon, California, Utah, and Washington. In a bar in Peru. I suppose I shouldn’t be surprised. I guess I just don’t travel enough to realize how much others do. Besides all the US stickers and the like they had really cute gnome/elf beer drinking art painted around the floor and walls.

And now you start to see the dilemma. How do I just do a quick blurb about a 16 day trip in and around South America? I can’t. It was just to amazing an experience.

A friend of mine used to own this boat, sold it to his father in law, who then let it float on a mooring for 7 years. So, I just purchased it for $1.

She’s a Cal 28. A 28 foot sailboat that has been neglected for a long time. It’ll take some work to put her back together, but, it’ll be a fun adventure.

I like to sit on the front porch with Wuhan in the mornings and drink my coffee. A little bit of kitten and I time before work. Most mornings now aren’t too warm or cold. A comfortable time to relax on the porch.

Wuhan loves sitting there and watching the humming birds buzz around. We had 5 or 6 of them this morning. Chasing each other around. I know she wants to catch them, but she never tries. She just sits with me watching.

I decided to do a drive down the coast today. It’s been a long time since I spent some time on the ocean. Miss it.

Lunch in Pacific Grove at a new hot dog place. Pretty good dogs.

Then down the coast

And a required stop and photo at the Bixby Bridge.

And a needed selfie

She’s dusty! Noooo! 🙂

There are times that I just don’t feel like starting my day staring at a computer screen. On days like this, Wuhan and I, sit on the front porch and drink our coffee. The weather this morning was about perfect. Sunny and 65 degrees. Warming up into the mid 70’s today.

Wuhan loves to sit on the porch with me. She’s learned that as long as she stays on the porch she’s allowed outside. Steps off and I put her inside. Since she loves being out, she behaves herself. I can even go in and make a cup of coffee without worrying about her now.

Went down to Monterey a few weeks ago and attended a Buddy Guy concert at the Golden State Theater. Buddy Guy was a cohort of BB King. At 85 years old he still cranked out an hour and a half show plus a young lady played for an hour before him. Really good Blues concert.

I don’t get much chance to enjoy a good Blues night out, so this was a treat.

I drove down the coast with the new Miata. As far as I can tell. I have the first 22 MX-5 RF GT in California.

I ended up stopping at a co-worker/buddies place in Eugene Oregon. He sold his house in East Bay and bought a mansion on the hill cash. Literally. Timing is an amazing thing.

I had to take a selfie while I was driving

And a final picture of the Miata on the Oregon coast.

Well. Believe it or not, I am making progress on the mustang. I’ve welded in all but the drivers inner front fender. I have the headliner in, fuel tank in, wiring stubbed in, etc. My big hitters right now are to make and run the fuel lines from the tank forward and back. EFI requires a return line. Build and run the brake lines. Finish the wiring so that I can run the vents for the A/C and heat.

This is what the wiring looks like. I’m going to cut large chunks out and shorten the runs so it’s cleaner. When I moved the fuse panel to the left kick area it changed how all the runs worked. I had to do that because there wasn’t room between the vintage air system and the Coyote fly by wire gas pedal.

Well. I decided to buy a new toy over the Christmas break. Morgen needed a vehicle since the Focus was totaled, and was planning to head back to NM for School. Which means we would have had only Nora’s Miata and my motorcycle. So, I listened to Paul and bought a car sight unseen.

I purchased a 2022 Mazda MX-5 RF Grand Touring with the Terracotta interior.

Now I have a toy to drive while I’m building the Mustang. Life is good.

For some reason Wuhan’s picture keeps distorting. Not sure why.
